Childcare Instructor Substitute
Extended Day Programs
Hours are 7:00-9:00 am and/or  1:15-6:30 pm


JOB SUMMARY:
To ensure quality care for each child enrolled in WCE Extended Day Program, while planning and
implementing engaging, ageappropriate,
and relevant activities that support program goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 College Degree.
 Experience/education working with children.
 Experience planning and organizing child related educational or recreational activities.
 Experience utilizing technology including PC computers/laptops, Smart Boards, iPads, Surface
Tablets for streaming educational online videos, researching, downloading and supervising use of
educational apps, assisting in homework time, and supervising Technology Lab activities.
 Demonstrated management abilities including: organizational, administration and interpersonal
skills.
 Computer experience required: Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to learn
established office technology systems including WCE Website.
 Ability to work closely with administration, office staff, custodians, instructors, parents and
students in the school setting.

REQUIRED TRAINING:
CT Childcare and CPR certification, renewed regularly, as required by the State of CT or the Red Cross
for the duration of employment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan, organize, and implement individual and group instructional activities for students that aim
to develop social, emotional, intellectual, and physical skills.
2. Provide nurturing, supportive, and inclusive approach to all students.
3. Insure student safety and uphold safety standards for the program.
4. Provide structure and routine in daily program.
5. Provide positive approach and behavior redirection, as appropriate.
6. Assist students with homework and provide instructional guidance.
7. Communicate with and provide excellent customer service to students and families.
8. Maintain appropriate communication with Program Manager and Supervisor regarding parent,
student, or teacher concerns.
9. Provide direction and supervision to childcare instructors and high school aides working in the
program(s).
10. Maintain accurate daily notes related to incidents, payments, registrations, scheduling, planning,
etc.
11. Maintain accurate reports related to attendance, signout sheets, drop -in registrations and
payments.
12. Maintain accurate reports related to activity planning, scheduling and Edline calendar.
13. Maintain inventory log for games and sports equipment.
14. Maintain inventory of supplies.
15. Maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
16. Performs other related duties as required or requested by Program Manager and Supervisor.

REPORTS TO:
MANAGER of CHILDCARE PROGRAMS and SUPERVISOR of CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS, WCE.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 Able to be active with the children at all locations of program: playground, gym and in the
cafeteria.
 Able to quickly and efficiently move children throughout program activities, school building or
outside areas as necessary for emergency purposes.
 Able to communicate verbally, hear, and understand elementary aged
children.
 Able to sit on the floor or at cafeteria tables with students.
