JOB TITLE - Multi Language Learner Teacher

 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION

 

Multi Language Learner Teacher works under Section 10-17e(3) of the C.G.S. This statute defines English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) as “a program that uses only English as the instructional language for eligible students and enables such students to achieve English proficiency and academic mastery of subject matter content and higher order skills, including critical thinking, so as to meet appropriate grade promotion and graduation requirements.”

 

 

ILLUSTRATION OF KEY DUTIES

 

  • Provides instruction for students who are eligible to receive ELL services:
    • Works with classroom staff to modify curriculum so that content is accessible for ELLs.
    • Consistently provides services to best meet the needs of students.
    • Uses a variety of service delivery models, including push-in and pull-out services.
  • Provides expert consultation to building principals in planning and implementing programs which address the needs and abilities of the identified ELL student population.
  • Screens and assesses students to determine ELL eligibility and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Conducts the annual assessment of identified ELL students as mandated by State and Federal statutes.
  • Consults with classroom teachers as appropriate to support ELL student access to curriculum and instruction.
  • Monitors eligible students in the general education setting:
    • Checks in with academic subject area teachers to ensure that ELLs are doing well in content area classes.
    • Provides strategies to content area teachers on how to successfully meet the needs of ELLs.
  • Acts as a resource to teachers of ELL students in developing differentiated instructional and assessment strategies.
  • Communicates effectively with parents/guardians of ELL students.
  • Maintains records and reports as required by local, state or federal agencies.
  • Works with building administration to develop an appropriate schedule for servicing students.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

 

  • Collaborates with teachers and administrators on the assessment and instruction of students.
  • Locates and disseminate instructional materials and resources.
  • Provides oral and/or written updates on the status of ELL services.

 

COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS – Maintains effective lines of communication with all stakeholders and interprets the instructional program to various constituencies. Provides oral and written reports to administration as requested.  

 

MANAGEMENT – Assists in researching, ordering, and allocating program resources and materials.  Provides any additional support to teachers that is needed to ensure the effectiveness of the ELL program.

 

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES – Serves on standing and special committees in the schools and community when assigned, and attends parent-teacher meetings (in consultation with principals) and other activities of a professional nature. Participates in professional learning activities, including summer workshops, to develop and enhance skills in ELL pedagogy.

 

GENERAL – Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.

 

WORK YEAR AND COMPENSATION

 

The work year and compensation is according to the agreement between the Board of Education and Wilton Education Association.  Any additional work or training during the summer or holidays will be compensated according the provisions the agreement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. The candidate shall have experience and extensive expertise in the ELL instruction.

 

  1. The candidate shall have demonstrated ability to collaborate with administrators, faculty, students, and the community.

 

  1. The candidate shall have the demonstrated ability to seamlessly integrate technology into the instructional process.

 

  1. The candidate shall demonstrate a level of professional competence necessary to effectively execute the duties and responsibilities indicated in the position description.

 

  1. The candidate shall have teaching certification appropriate to the position (K-12 TESOL) and preferably a Masters degree.
