Instructor, Childcare Program - Begins 24-25 school year
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Hourly position for school calendar year
- Extended Day & During School Programs
- Hours are: MD Before School 7:00-9:00 am, and/or MD After School 2:00 - 6:30 pm, or CM After School 1:00 – 6:30pm
JOB SUMMARY:
To ensure quality care for each child in grades K-5 enrolled in WCE Extended Day Programs, Before and After School at Miller-Driscoll and After School at Cider Mill Schools, while assisting in the planning and implementation of engaging, age-appropriate, and relevant activities that support program goals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent/some college preferred
- Prior experience working with children
- Experience planning and organizing child related educational and recreational activities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer experience required including working knowledge of computers/laptops/tablets, Zoom & Smartboards
- Ability to learn the Wilton Continuing Education (WCE) Website
- Ability to work closely with instructors, parents, students, office staff, custodians and administration in a school setting
- Ability to learn School Dismissal manager (SDM)
REQUIRED TRAINING:
Back to Work Protocol Training:
- Anti-Bullying Safe School Climate (yearly) - online
- DCF Mandated Reporter (every 3 years) - online (State of CT)
- Darkness to Light (every 3 years) - online
- Sexual Harassment Training (every 10 years - or yearly depending on program being used by school)
- OSHA Training - date to follow when provided by school nurse
- CT Childcare and CPR certification, renewed bi-annually, or as required by the State of
CT/Red Cross for the duration of employment
- Training in administering EPI-Pens and inhalers for students enrolled in the programs
REPORTS TO: WCE MANAGER EXTENDED DAY CHILDCARE PROGRAMS
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing individual and group instructional and
recreational activities, age-appropriate games, and projects for children that aim to
develop social, emotional, intellectual, and physical skills
- Guide, encourage and aid students in completion of individual & group craft projects scheduled
throughout the year
- Supervise homework In Grades 3-5 and reading time
- Ensure child safety and uphold safety standards for the Programs as outlined in the WCE
Policies and Procedures and Emergency Operations Plan
- Maintain appropriate communication with Lead Instructors and Program Manager
regarding parent, child, or teacher concerns as well as incidents and accidents
- Assist Lead Instructors in reporting any incidents and accidents within 24hrs to the Extended
Day Manager
- Assist in maintaining equipment/supply log etc.
In addition, support the lead instructor in the following areas:
- Provide nurturing, supportive, and inclusive approaches to all children
- In the gym 3 afternoons a week, initiate gym games and monitor activities assuring safety and following rules
- Assist in providing structure and routine in daily programs
- Provide positive approach and behavior redirection, as appropriate
- Communicate with and provide excellent customer service to children and families
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Performs other related duties as required or requested by Lead Instructor and/or Program Managers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to be active with the children at all locations of program: playground, gym,
cafeteria and/or classroom
- Ability to actively assist students with getting ready for outdoor activities such as putting
on jackets, zippers, snow boots, backpacks, gloves, scarves, etc.
- Ability to quickly and efficiently move children throughout program activities, school
building or outside areas as necessary for emergency purposes
- Ability to hear, and understand elementary-aged children
- Ability to sit on the floor or at tables with students
